Who regulates boilers and pressure vessels in New York

Boiler safety in New York is primarily handled at the state level by the New York State Department of Labor's Boiler Safety Bureau, with a Boiler Board also in place; some cities may run their own inspection programs as well.

Inspection intervals

New York sets different inspection schedules by boiler type: high-pressure boilers are generally inspected internally every year and externally about every six months, with a certificate valid for 12 months; low-pressure steam boilers are inspected internally every three years and externally every two years; low-pressure hot-water boilers are inspected internally every five years and externally every two years, with a 24-month certificate. Boilers must meet ASME Code, carry a National Board or ASME stamp, and high-pressure units generally require National Board registration.

What this means for a repair

A repair or alteration to equipment covered by these rules has to follow the National Board Inspection Code and New York's own requirements, and be documented so the unit's certificate and inspection record stay valid. As an R-Stamp holder, we handle this documentation as part of every job.

Why work with an R-Stamp certified contractor in New York

Whether your facility is inspected by the state, or by a city with its own program, an R-Stamp repair gives you a documented record that satisfies both the National Board Inspection Code and the inspector who signs off on your equipment.

How it works

We follow the same five-step process for every R-Stamp job: you tell us what you have, we do a site survey, we prepare the repair plan and coordinate with HSB, we complete the repair and inspection, and you get the documentation. See the full R-Stamp process for details.
